England's up and coming football talent are giving the nation something to shout about after they beat Portugal 2-0 at Wembley on Saturday.

Despite the torrential rain more than 27,000 football fans descended upon Wembley Stadium to watch Stuart Pearce's side ensure a place in the play offs for the 2009 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.

A James Milner penalty in the 44th minute, which sent the Portugal goalkeeper Patricio the wrong way, put England ahead in their first competitive game at the stadium.

And Milner's new Aston Villa team-mate Gabriel Agbonlahor fired in the second in the 63rd minute leading to England convincingly winning Group Three.

Agbonlahor, who shrugged off a stomach bug to play, was named man of the match.

Senior photographer Stuart Emmerson captured the action, to see his pictures view our gallery.
