Tributes pour in for 23-year-old Brent man
TRIBUTES have poured in for a 23-year-old man from Brent who was killed after being in collision with a refuse lorry.
Yousef Zayni, of Preston Road, died at Dudden Hill Lane on the Sapcote Trading Estate at the scene of the incident on December 13.
He was on his way to work on a nearby trading estate at around 9.30am.
Police and the London Ambulance Service were called out, but he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Traffic officers are continuing to appeal for witnesses to the collision.
A post mortem examination held on Wednesday December 14, gave the cause of Yousef's death as a head injury. An inquest into his death was opened and adjourned at Barnet Coroner's Court at the end of last week.
Tributes have been left for Yousef on a public tribute page set up in his memory on social networking site Facebook.
A Just Giving account has also been set up by Sara Shahad Al-Zobaidie, which has already raised more than £1,158 for the Iraqi Orphan Foundation.
A statement on the site reads: "The family of Al-Mar7oom Yousef Zayni have described, as part of his loving and unique character, how he developed an intention to sponsor an orphan prior to his demise from this world.
"This is one of the greatest acts of kindness that can be given, and we wish to fulfil his intention by taking contributions of any amount, in his name."
Friends and family members have also taken to Twitter to express their shock and sorrow at Yousef's death.
The lorry driver stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. He was taken to a north London police station and bailed to return on a date in April 2012 pending further enquiries.
The collision is being investigated by officers from the Road Death Investigation Unit at Alperton Traffic Garage.
Detective Sergeant Chris Osborne, the senior investigating officer in the case, said: "We are continuing to appeal for witnesses. This collision happened at a busy time and although this is a private trading estate we know a lot of people use it as a cut through to Willesden High Road. If anyone saw what happened or can tell us anything about the incident please call us".
Any witnesses are asked to call officers on 020 8998 5319.
