A YOUNG Olympic gymnast put pupils at Byron Court Primary School through their paces in a special day of activities.

Danusia Francis , 17, is part of Team GB and gave coaching sessions to every child at the school, aged from four to 11.

Although the school has a healthy sporting environment PE teacher Minesh Randeria said the event helped to raise interest in gymnastics.

The head of the healthy and well-being faculty said: "It's not one of my specialities so it sometimes get over looked but we have a few girls at the school who are really keen on it. When we had the chance for an Olympic athlete to come to the school I thought it would be good to do something a bit different. All the pupils loved it, and I have had loads of girls asking for information about gymnastics clubs in the area where they can do more."

Ms Francis, who is originally from near Coventry gave a presentation to the school on Spencer Road, Wembley.

In 2011 she came third All Around in the English Championships, and represented the British team at the 2011 European Championships.

Mr Randeria said: "Even though she is only 17 she was fantastic with the children. They had all got sponsorship from families and friends and did star jumps and spotty dogs to raise money for charity."

The visit was set up by Sports for Schools, which arranges visits with Olympic athletes to schools, and they work closely with Action for Children.
