'Pit-bull' siezed in dawn raid in Harlesden
In a dawn raid in a property on Oldfield Road, Harlesden, a small, black, male dog was seized by police from a ground floor flat on Thursday February 9.
Brent Council had received a number of complaints about noise relating to the dog, and a council worker was injured while working at the property.
He has recovered but is receiving therapy after developing a phobia of dogs.
Harlesden Safer Neighbourhoods Team with the Dog Section and the Brent Council animal welfare officers executed a warrant under the Dangerous Dogs Act 1991.
The dog, which is roughly four or five years old and was wearing a restrictive muzzle, will be taken to the kennels in Kilburn to determine its exact species.
No one was in the flat at the time and there have so far been no arrests made and the investigation is on-going.
Animal welfare officer for Brent Council Angela Moruzzi said: "He wasn't in this condition when I saw him five or six months ago when we received noise complaints."
PC Lee Tyrrell from Harlesden Safer Neighbourhoods Team said: "This raid is an excellent example of the strong relationship between the Safer Neighbourhoods Teams and the local community. I would like to reassure the public that we take reports of dangerous dogs very seriously and will not tolerate animals being mistreated or being used for criminal purposes. We will continue to make Brent safer for residents and visitors."
One other dog was being kept at the property but this is thought to be a Staffordshire bull terrier.
